What to do If Your Dental Restoration Fails

Posted on 9/13/2016 by Zac Bird
A man suffering from a broken veneer!Cosmetic and restorative dental appliances are a pretty common thing today. It's important to the longevity of all dental appliances that you maintain them with proper oral hygiene routines.

After a while though, many dental appliances will come loose, or experience some sort of failure. If you ever experience the failure of one of your dental appliances, here are some tips that you should know.

Save Everything!
If at all possible, save everything. If you are able to find the piece of veneer or crown that chipped off while eating that nut, great! Hold onto all pieces of appliance and call us to schedule an appointment for us to fix the issue immediately.

The best way to transport broken dental appliances as well as broken natural teeth, is to wash them off and place them back in the mouth. If the piece is able to be placed in the same spot that it came out of that's the best way to keep it.

When the piece won't stay put in th same spot that it originally came from, its fine to place it between the gum and the cheek, or place it in a Tupperware full of milk. If any of the natural tooth has broken off with the appliance, this will help to ensure that we can save the tooth.

Call Us!
Contact our office (253) 777-0252 to schedule a same day appointment. When there is an emergency during our normal business hours, we will try our hardest to get you in same day.

How to Prevent Failure in Dental Appliance

Some issues cant be helped. Over time things, like fillings and crowns will occasionally get old and fall out. It's definitely in your best interest to treat your dental appliances with care to ensure they last you a long time.

Chewing on hard objects like ice and using your teeth as tools to open packaging are common causes of tooth and dental appliance failure.
